Andy Mark Simpson is from Ashington, a former mining town near Newcastle on the Northumberland coast. He has a degree in History and Politics which informs the backdrop to some of his stories and also works in schools in the local community supporting teenagers with behavioural difficulties which adds to the authenticity of his social realist teenage films.
He is the Writer-Director and Producer of self-funded debut feature ‘Young Hearts Run Free’, a social realist coming-of-age story.
Through his production company Bede Films, he devised a self-distribution strategy to release the film in a cinema tour of the UK in 2011 and the USA in 2014.
He also wrote and directed self-funded short films Mad About The Boy, Grotto and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn- evolving a magic realist style and improvisational methods with a teenage cast. Currently developing two future feature scripts in this new style with production companies; Girl & the Ghost with Pins & Needles Media and Taught My Heart To Fear with Candle & Bell.
